8:45: The New Glasgow Police are seeking any information into two break-ins. The  first took place last Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning at Scissor Wizard Hair Salon on MacDonald Street in New Glasgow. The second was at the First United Baptist Church on East River Road in New Glasgow. The front door was also smashed with several items being taken from inside. 

Anyone with information can contact the New Glasgow Regional Police Service at 902-752-1941. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers atwww.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or 1-800-222-8477.

8:20: From a press release sent yesterday from the CCRSB: "Following the decision by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) to move all schools forward in the School Review Process, the following dates and times have been set for public hearings:

Bass River Elementary: Monday, February 25 - 6:30 pm, 139 Maple Avenue, Bass River

East Pictou Middle School: Tuesday, February 26 - 6:30 pm, 163 School Road, Sutherland’s River

Maitland District Elementary: Monday, March 4 – 6:30 pm, 178 Cedar Road, Maitland

River John Consolidated: Thursday, February 28 - 6:30 pm, 2 School Street, River John

Wentworth Consolidated Elementary: Tuesday, March 5 - 6:30 pm, 13371 Highway 4, Wentworth

8:00: Don't forget that there will be a meeting tonight at the Trenton Youth Centre at 7pm to discuss bullying in Pictou County and ways to combat it. All are welcome to attend this initiative started by Cory Scott of New Glasgow.

7:50: The News received this press release late last night past our deadline. Last night "members of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) were presented with eight options in light of the investigation results into reported odours at Highland Consolidated Middle School. The Board is now tasked with deciding what to do in regards to Highland Consolidated Middle School, its students and staff for the long-term."

Here's the 8 options - What do you think?

The options presented to the Board are as follows (the numbers assigned do not denote a ranking):

OPTION 1:

Remediate the roof, mechanical, structural and housekeeping items as outlined in the investigation and return students to Highland Consolidated Middle School.

OPTION 2:

Students remain at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary; it becomes a Primary-Grade 8 school: G.R. Saunders Elementary P-6; Walter Duggan Consolidated P-6; and Northumberland Rural High School (NRHS) 9-12.

OPTION 3:

Reconfigure to create three Primary-Grade 8 schools: G.R. Saunders Elementary P-8; Walter Duggan Consolidated P-8; Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary P-8; and NRHS 9-12.

OPTION 4:

Reconfigure to create three Primary-Grade 7 schools and one Grade 8-12 school: G.R. Saunders Elementary P-7; Walter Duggan Consolidated P-7; Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary P-7; and NRHS 8-12.

OPTION 5:

Reconfigure to create two Primary-Grade 5 schools and one Grade 6-8 school: G.R. Saunders Elementary (P-5 OR 6-8), Walter Duggan Consolidated (P-5 or 6-8); Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary (P-5 or 6-8); and NRHS 9-12.

OPTION 6:

Reconfigure to create two Primary-Grade 7 schools and one Primary-Grade 8 school: G.R. Saunders Elementary P-7; Walter Duggan Consolidated P-7; Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary P-8; and NRHS 9-12.

OPTION 7:

Reconfigure to create three Primary-Grade 6 schools and one Grade 7-12 school: G.R. Saunders Elementary P-6; Walter Duggan Consolidated P-6; Dr. W.A. MacLeod Elementary P-6; and NRHS 7-12.

OPTION 8:

Reclaim Old Victoria School for Grade 7 and 8 students.
