NEW GLASGOW - Organizers of the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee say there are about a million reasons to support the event. And they’ve got the numbers to back it up.

The Jubilee has released details of an economic impact survey that was conducted during last year’s event, which took place August 3-5, 2012. The study, conducted by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance and funded by Events Nova Scotia, shows that the total economic activity generated by the three-day event was $1.1 million.

Well address the real issue--all the talent in Pictou County and you go where?--Local talent (I grew up as a musician in the area) can supply a great venue--get one of the great past bands to re-union-Sylvester Stretch--(I was on) Wizard (Ralph from H&R Music was the leader)-The Nite Cult etc You have many great music fans still around as well as many who would return. The 1.1 million did leave a residue-- the sound company and music etc pulled but a small portion of that away--people count the numbers --no one got paid any fortune in that event--love your county and support your workers we are all one big family--as one of my guitar players used to say "get a grip"

Johnny Smoke the truth is the Lions share of this money leaves the community in the form of a security firm from outside the county , a production company named Tour Tech East providing the gear for a huge fee and then the talent on stage which practically 95 percent only grace the county for a couple of hours with all their food probably comped by the jubilee committee. The funding for this is from the Taxpayer , Sponsors and ticket sales. The reason you dont see Profits in this statement is because indeed there are probably none. IF indeed there were profits a committee that was smart would start to buy the pieces needed to conduct the show each year and also allow for further concert opportunities. The visitor claims jive with the fact that this is nothing more then an open air drunk fest for kids that probably hurts taxpaying businesses in the town. If there is indeed this much economic benefit then the Jubilee should be able to operate without a dime of taxpayers money. This event does not even pay Charlton Munroes Salary in full for being the Town Events coordinator as the town picks up half that tab as reported by this newspaper.

Economic activity? What in God's name is that code for? Of course it generates economic activity. The town crews do not work for nothing, the cops do not work for nothing, the beer slingers do not work for nothing. The word that i as a tax payer want's to hear is PROFIT, sadly not a mention of that, therefore I must assume that not only did it generate economic activity it also generated at LOSS!.
