WESTVILLE – Old and familiar songs and music radiate from the Westville Heritage Club Room and fill the halls of the Westville Civic Centre.

The singers are seniors from throughout Pictou County who enjoy singing, dancing and of course, a little good-time nostalgia.

The group is called ‘Sing and Exercise away those Blues’ and its average attendance is about 35 each month.

The group’s president Nellie Bruton says the group’s other activities like art classes, bowling and cards help to bring people together

“This is a community minded group,” she said.

The project, in its eighth month, is a shared sponsorship between the Pictou West and Central/East Pictou Community Health Boards and the Regional Development Grant.

Workshops and classes important to seniors are featured prominently, with a food security focus group offered this month and a free course on for diabetes, focusing on type 2 starting in March.

Monthly meetings occur on the first Monday each month at 2 p.m., Sept. to June inclusive. Fun Days occur on the third Monday of each month at 2 p.m., Sept. to May inclusive.

Bingo is played at 2 p.m. and announced on the meeting days. Art class is Tuesday at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays is line dancing at 10 a.m. and bowling at 1 p.m. at the Heather Lanes.
