NEW GLASGOW – A “Le Jass Band Reunion” will take place at the Captain’s Helm for “Jazz at the Helm” in New Glasgow. David Pos joined the group in 1987. He said the group played together until member Ed Fraser passed away and Clas Larsson moved to Lunenburg. The band will perform with Mike Freeman taking Fraser’s position on bass and Larsson returning for the show. Rick Doucet and Art Coleman will join Pos, Fraser and Larsson for the reunion show. Pos said the band will perform music they played back in the  1980s and tunes they’ve learned since. The show is Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

 

HALIFAX – Georgia Richards, a graduate of Northumberland Regional High School and former Stellarton resident, has been nominated in the Live Sound Engineer category of the 2013 East Coast Music Association Industry Awards. Georgia’s parents, Lloyd and Judith Haggerty, reside in Big Island and New Glasgow. Richards was also nominated in the 2012 Nova Scotia Music Awards.

 

Upcoming arts and entertainment events:

 

Feb. 15: Sloan will perform at Glasgow Square at 8 p.m. as part of the band’s Twice Removed Tour. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Visit glasgowsquare.com/sloan for more information.

 

Feb. 16: An advance screening of locally produced short film “The Duffel Bag” will take place at the Pictou Legion. It is an ages 19-plus event with cocktails at 8:30 p.m., the screening at 10 p.m. followed by a dance until 1 a.m. Free-will offerings will be accepted at the door.

 

Feb. 16: Psychic and spiritual medium Alan Hatfield presents “Live… from the Otherside” at The Celtic Circle Cultural Centre, 195 Forbes St., New Glasgow. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show running from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, $18 in advance. Advance tickets can be purchased Poulaine’s Pharmacy in Stellarton and Big Al’s in New Glasgow. Tickets can be reserved at 755-8972.

 

Feb. 16: The Sounds of Motown will perform at Summer Street Industries from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Summer Street Industries and Big Al’s Convenience Store in New Glasgow.
