NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Help Line received financial help from the provincial government Monday. Pictou West MLA Charlie Parker presented a one-time grant of $15,000 to the Help Line’s treasurer, Angela Bannerman, to help the organization financially.
“This Help Line is more than a phone call,” Parker said. “It’s one member of our community helping another when they need it most.”
The Help Line is a confidential service that assists callers with questions about crisis intervention, food bank inquiries and other services.
“Volunteers give their time 365 days a year to this service,” commented Ross Landry, MLA for Pictou Centre. “I’m glad we were able to help that continue.”
Bannerman said the grant will “definitely help us out this year,” adding that the funds will go towards keeping the Help Line open.
Clarrie MacKinnon, MLA for Pictou East, said, "funding for the Help Line is another example of the NDP government supporting a valuable service to communities."
