PICTOU – A local businessman woman is hoping to turn her historic inn into residential units.
Debbie Jardine, owner of the Consulate Inn in downtown Pictou, has applied to the Town of Pictou for a development agreement that will see the main building turned into four residential units and the annex transformed into three units. The development agreement leaves some room for an additional residential unit to be built in the annex in the future.
Council was told the existing landscape would remain the same and there has only been one concern about parking brought to the attention to Pictou County Shared Services by a local resident. There wasn't any opposition to the development agreement during a public meeting Monday.
Pictou resident Gary Nolan said the building is historic property and the development will allow it to be sustained for another century.
Coun. Bob Naylor congratulated Jardine on her plans saying he is pleased to see the development will allow a business to operate in the town for many years to come.
A second reading on the development agreement will take place once a traffic report is complete.
