Archway Counselling Association is the new name for the organization formerly called Christian Counselling Ministries.
Recently, the board of directors agreed to rename the non-profit organization, which includes the operations of "Archway Counseling" and the "Slate Youth Centre."
They said the reason for the name change is very simple; unfortunately, the words "Christian" and "ministries" are misunderstood in society today and put up roadblocks. Some in the public thought that the services of this association were only open to those who were Christian, which was never the case. This was in direct conflict with the organization’s mission, which is to provide professional counselling services to anyone, at affordable rates and on a timely basis. Archway Place, the home of the association, is located at 883 Prince St. in Truro.
The satellite office of Archway Counselling in Pictou County is located at 1905 Main St., Westville, and has been serving the needs of people in the community and area since November 2009. There are now two professional counsellors providing individual, couple and family counselling for adults, youth and children.
Individuals, churches and businesses of Pictou County have been supportive through donations and support of various fundraisers to offset the costs of counselling services here.
The annual fundraising banquet is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 489 Abercrombie Rd., New Glasgow. Tickets are $15. The banquet features a meal, a silent auction, and the musical talents of Ardyth and Jennifer. Tickets are available by calling 752-5193 or 755-1500.
