STELLARTON – The Museum of Industry is inviting families to spend March Break with them as they host “To the Stars and Beyond.”

The Stellarton-based museum holds events each year around March Break to attract kids and their parents to the museum and this year organizers have been working since September to develop a space-themed week.

Running from March 9-17 the activities include everything from star puppets, space ship designer and robot inventor activities to Star Wars and Star Trek theme days and a planetarium.

Andrew Phillips Curator of Education and Public Programming said March Break is always a fun time at the Museum for both visitors and staff.

“It’s an opportunity for all of our imaginations to run a little bit,” he said.

He said there’s always a feeling of excitement in the air during that week.

“Kids and parents are interested to see what we have going on,” he said. “It’s always a great place with a variety of different activities.”

The theme days are a chance for kids to wear costumes they might have left over from Halloween. A Star Trek theme day will be held on March 13 and a Star Wars theme day will be held on March 16.

“On those days if those kids come in costume we’re going to have a little show with prizes to give away,” Phillips said.

Denise Taylor, marketing services officer, said they see not only parents but often grandparents coming by with young children and helps kids see the museum as a fun place to go.

During March Break the last of couple years they’ve averaged about 200 people a day.

“I think people in the local area, Truro and Antigonish look to the museum every year now for something to do during March Break,” she said. “We do see people who come back on multiple days.”
