NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Blues Society is bringing a Toronto-based band to Glasgow Square on March 23.
The 24th Street Wailers are touring the East Coast with their new CD release "Live In Halifax" recorded live at Halifax's Bearly's House of Blues and Ribs.
In August 2011, the 24th Street Wailers won at The Festiblues International de Montreal, which sent them to France to perform at The Blues Sur Seine Festival.
In 2012 the band was nominated for a Maple Blues Award for New Artist Of The Year.
In Feb. 2012 they were semi-finalists in The International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
This year at the Maple Blues Awards, band member and sax player, Jon Wong, won for Best Horn Player.
“With Lindsay Beaver on drums and vocals, Michael Archer on Harmony bass, Emily Burgess on lead guitar and Jon Wong on tenor sax, they are one of the most exciting blues bands on the scene today,” a release from the society stated.
The concert will also feature a local opening act. Art Coleman will be performing at the concert, showcasing his new blues album "The Color of Blue.”
The concert will take place Saturday, March 23, at Glasgow Square Theatre. Doors open at 7:30 with the concert beginning at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. There will be a 50/50 in support of Pictou native Craig Aucoin’s cross-Canada bike tour raising awareness for the CNIB, YMCA and The Canadian Seeing Eye Dogs Association.
