THORBURN – Nearly fifty skaters took to the ice for the thirty-ninth annual East Pictou Silver Blades ice show at the Ivor MacDonald Arena in Thorburn on Saturday.
This years’ theme was Peter Pan and the event featured music, costumes and acts from the movie.
The skaters, which include twelve figure skaters and thirty CanSkaters have been practicing since October for three days a week.
Justine Harpelle, the club president said the skaters, between ages three and twelve did well at a competition in February. “At the Rob McCall Memorial Invitational we competed against skaters from N.B and P.E.I. and brought home the bronze overall.”
The big winner of the night was Courtey Arnold, 10 who received the Connie Frazee Memorial Award for the love of skating. Raquel Gerrior, 10 also took home the award for Most Improved Skater.
“This ice show is a chance for the skaters to cut loose and have fun,” said Harpelle. “It’s a showcase for how much they’ve learned and improved.”
