PICTOU – Carvers Coffeehouse in Pictou will be holding its own celebration of local, homegrown talent in the wake of the East Coast Music Awards.
Brent Minshull, owner of Carvers, says Pictou County has a lot to be proud of in the music scene.
“When I bought Carvers, I wanted to increase the presence of the arts through classes and performances,” he said.
Singer/songwriter Jim Dorie has been a staple at Carvers and Minshull wants to recognize him and others.
That’s why he’s established the first annual CARMA awards (CARvers Music Awards) to honour and celebrate local talent that has graced Carvers Coffeehouse.
The red carpet event will consist of an awards ceremony with presentations to several deserving artists who have played at Carvers over the last year. Anyone can vote in the fan-favourite award, but the vote can only go to a performer who has graced Carvers.
“The fan-favourite award to acknowledge all the people who come out to Carvers and have their go-to musician or artist they love to hear,” said Minshull. Votes can be cast at Carvers or on their Facebook page.
The celebrations will include live music by guest presenters, followed by refreshments and an after-party jam session. The gala will take place at Carvers, 41 Coleraine St., in Pictou at 7 p.m. on March 28. Black tie optional but encouraged.
