ANTIGONISH – A local campus radio station has produced an album featuring songs by student artists.

St. Francis Xavier University’s radio station CFXU 93.3 the Fox released the CD “This Is the Sound the Fox Makes,” which was entirely produced by St. FX students.

“The project is an effort to support several communities within St. FX,” John Sloat, CFXU manager, stated in a press release. “As a campus radio station, we are mandated by the CRTC to support the local arts community within Antigonish. For the most part we do this by giving local, mostly student artists, a certain amount of airtime. We do this by putting their recorded material on our regular rotation that plays when we do not have a live DJ. The other way we facilitate this is by providing a low cost recording service for students. This project is an extension of this mandate. We have many different student artists performing on our CD.”

Sloat said the project also helps the student artists gain increased awareness in the community.

“These CDs showcase the impressive talent the students of this school display,” he said, adding that it also benefits the radio station.
“It gives us a tangible product that can reach students in a different way than the radio. One of our major problems is lack of awareness. This CD gives us an opportunity to increase our brand on campus.”
