PICTOU – The Plymouth Fire Department is hoping to take advantage of some future road work in its area.
Coun. Andy Thompson asked for county council staff to look into the cost of installing a larger water line to the fire hall or a new hydrant since road work is already expected to take place in the Plymouth area this summer.
“The fire department has a two-inch line, but it would like a six-inch line to safely fill their trucks in the event of a fire,” he said Monday during a committee of the whole meeting for the Municipality of Pictou County.
He added there is a hydrant at a nearby farm that isn’t being used, suggesting it could be moved closer to the fire department, but staff ruled this out right away and it would cost about $2,000 to purchase a new hydrant.
Thompson said the fire department would be paying for the new water line and asked that report be made available next month on the cost of expanding the line.
