PICTOU – County council’s request to have street lights underneath an overpass leading to the Pictou County Wellness Centre has been referred to an engineer.

Coun. Chester Dewar was told that Transportation and Infrastructure recently stated that if the municipality was considering putting lights under an overpass that covers a stretch of Westville Road, it would have to come out of the county’s pocketbook.

He was told that TIR has passed the matter along to an engineer for an opinion.  County council has expressed concern in the past about the lack of lighting under the overpass that could prohibit people from using the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The other day I was following a lady on MacGregor Avenue as we approached Westville Road. She had a green light at the traffic light and did not see the tiny sign that said to not go straight ahead. Anyway, she went straight ahead and braked to halt in front of another car coming off the highway. I watched as she turned around and then went off toward Westville. Could they not change this light to have 2 arrows for going either direction left or right? Having a single green light makes one think you can go straight.

Maybe because the COUNTY doesn't have anything to do with those? Take it up with the town of New Glasgow. The area in question above is county.
