Over 500 people lined up at Uncle Leo's Brewery in Lyons Brook for the craft brewery's grand opening over the weekend. For the opening the brewery waived the $8.00 deposit fee on a 1.89L growler of draft beer and gave out free glasses with the brewery's logo.

LYONS BROOK – Things were hopping at Uncle Leo’s Brewery this weekend.

“My best guess is that we had over 500 people pass through our doors this weekend,” said Rebecca Whiffen, who with her husband Karl, own Uncle Leo’s. “Some who waited in line on Saturday may have waited up to an hour.”

Whiffen said they sold out of the 1.89L growlers on the first day of the grand opening on Saturday and the 500 free glasses were gone by Sunday afternoon.

“Over 1,500 litres of beer were sold this weekend. It’s phenomenal and we’re so pleased and so thankful for all the support,” said Whiffen.

For those in line on Saturday and Sunday, the Whiffen’s dog Buster, had, according to Whiffen, the best weekend of his life.

“There was always someone to throw him a ball.”

She hopes that the buzz will continue.

“It may level off, but I do hope we can stay busy,” she said

For now, around 60 bottles are left for sale with four kegs remaining for growler refill. There won’t be any IPA for two weeks and a new batch of red ale should be ready by Thursday.
