UPDATED: And... she's off! As of 9:00 a.m., Jill (Taylor) Leon is enroute from Waterside Beach Provincial Park, N.S. to Borden, P.E.I. following the ferry route.

CARIBOU - This morning will likely bring the first ever attempt to swim the “ferry route” from Caribou, Nova Scotia, to Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island, a distance of approximately 20.5 km.

Undertaking the swim will be Jill (Taylor) Leon, a 57 year old Prince Edward Island native and highly experienced open water swimmer, who, in 2008, undertook a record setting crossing of the Northumberland Strait in the area of Confederation Bridge (12.9 km).

Barring unanticipated weather or sea conditions, the swim is expected to begin on the Nova Scotia side at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Check the website later for pictures and more details of the event.
