The Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre is on schedule and on budget with the floor repair work which is being done by Higgins construction.
“They are scheduled to be done and ready for ice at the end of the month,” Mayor Glen MacKinnon said in a phone interview this week. “They’ll be ready to put ice in at their normal time.”
The floor of the rink had been in bad condition the last few years and there were several instances the ice surface had to be closed while repairs were done mid season. The town hopes that will no longer be a problem.
MacKinnon said the new floor should allow the ice plant to operate more efficiently because there will be better insulation.
Already things are looking positive for the rink with their prime time ice pretty well booked for the upcoming hockey season.
MacKinnon said the ice will be kept in the building for the typical length. The last couple years, he said it’s been in longer than was the norm, but with the Pictou County Wellness Centre now open, they’ll probably return to their previous standard.
