SYLVESTER – Tim Dunn from Sylvester had the quickest and fastest street car last week at Cape Breton Dragway.
Dunn and his Chevy Malibu covered the quarter mile in 9.57 seconds and 147 miles per hour to win the 2013 Cape Breton Dragway King of Street Award. Jeff Pastuck of New Waterford was the winner of the 2013 Cape Breton Dragway Street Car Championship.
The event was one of the four that Tim and his father Barry participate in each season. This year they only have one more event remaining, the Noonan Nationals in Miramichi in September.
Before the event Barry said they will tweak the car for more horsepower and look at the suspension. He said there’s also a maintenance schedule they follow after each race of approximately 20 things that need to be checked.
Barry said the car has a modified stock suspension, but that the tires are DOT rated tires, not slick. The car is licensed, insured and safety inspected like any other street car, but with a 9.3 litre engine that has over a 1000 horsepower it’s in a class of its own.
Barry said the style of racing they do is what they enjoy most and that’s why they continue to race year in and year out.
