At age 26, Jason Davis of Truro has already made his mark on the health and wellness industry.
Davis has recently taken over as the owner of Simply For Life (Truro) and Simply For Life (New Glasgow). He is the youngest franchisee in company history. He is also a part owner at 360fit, an award winning gym located in Dartmouth.
“If you do what you love, I find it doesn’t tire you out, but the more energy you get,” said Davis, a Truro native who now lives in Halifax and travels between the three areas for work. “For me, I love what I do and I often find myself still up at two in the morning working away. I’ll go to bed and get up again at five and do it all again.”
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University in 2008, Davis bounced around between Antigonish, Halifax and Truro. He started his entrepreneurial career as a personal trainer at the age of 21.
“I knew I had to either get a job or do it on my own, and then I fell in love with the business side of it. I’ve never been one to follow somebody else or like being told what to do. I’ve always been drawn to doing my own thing.”
But the personal trainer gig only allowed him to help individuals one-on-one, so he switched to group work, which eventually led to him helping other gyms, studios, instructors and consultants with their business side of things.
“That’s when the entrepreneurial bug kicked in for me,” he said.
With a number of mentors over the years, Davis said one was given a similar opportunity as he was by travelling to bigger cities to help other business owners.
“He loves the Maritimes too and always said that there is no reason why you can’t be the best at what you do, no matter where you are. If you’re the best at what you do, people will seek you out.”
It was back in late winter that the New Glasgow Simply for Life became available and Davis was quick to acquire it. Then came a partnership with the owner of 360Fit, whom he had a great relationship with while being a member of the gym.
In May, he took over the Truro franchise.
