PICTOU – Two men charged in connection with a brawl outside a Pictou tavern in June made brief court appearances Monday in provincial court.
Nathan James Shaw, 21, of Pictou, pleaded not guilty to charges of assault causing bodily harm and escaping lawful custody in relation to the alleged incident that occurred June 23 outside the Highlander Pub. He also pleaded not guilty to two breeches of court undertaking that allegedly occurred in early July.
Shaw will return to court Nov.18 for this trial.
A second man, Tyler Gerald James McKay, 23, of Scotsburn has been charged with allegedly trying to assist Shaw in escaping custody. He was given more time to contact a lawyer before entering a plea and will return to court Oct. 7.
Pictou County RCMP say when they arrived on the scene of a brawl outside a Pictou pub during the early morning hours of June 23, they found a 21-year-old man unconscious. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released. Three men were charged in connection with the incident.
One 19-year-old Pictou man has been sentenced to a 15-month conditional sentence in connection to the incident.
