A tense standoff in the Lawrencetown area has ended after police say a man barricaded himself inside a home and was in possession of a firearm for over five hours.
The standoff ended around 3:30 p.m., with police saying a 43-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.
Some people living on Osprey Way were removed from their homes during the standoff, and police barricaded off the road.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Al LeBlanc said the situation unfolded on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. when police were called to the home by someone concerned for the man’s safety. When police arrived, an officer spoke with the man, and he refused to come out.
A crisis negotiator was on scene, and some of the close to dozen police officers were armed. Around 3 p.m., the Emergency Response Team arrived and the situation came to an end a short time later.
More to come.
