“We are very proud and excited to welcome these extraordinary artists and acts that are among the best in the East Coast and Canadian entertainment scene as well as a variety of genres,” says Carlton Munroe, New Glasgow’s program and events manager and manager of Glasgow Square.
Kicking off the new season on Sept. 21 is Pictou County native Peter Anthony, who returns to the Square stage with his clever standup comedy routine. Peter is sure to present a night of big laughs as he performs his popular Nova Scotia and Pictou County-themed "coming home" material during his brand new standup comedy show that he takes from coast to coast.
On Oct. 10, East Coast songwriting legend Lennie Gallant graces the Glasgow Square stage. Recognized by his peers as one of Canada's best performing songwriters, Gallant has released nine albums (seven in English and two in French), which have garnered him scores of awards and nominations from both the Juno Awards and the East Coast Music Association.
Beatlemania nostalgia will reign on Oct. 19 when REPLAY The Beatles comes to town. The tribute band REPLAY plays more than 32 of the most favourite Beatles songs such as She Loves You, Help!, Yesterday, Penny Lane, Get Back, Hey Jude and many more.
On Oct. 30, Joel Plaskett prepares to play the indoor stage at Glasgow Square for the first time with an intimate acoustic performance.
With countless awards to his credit, thousands of tour performances, as well as numerous recording and producing projects under his belt, Plaskett remains one of the most innovative and prolific artists on the national music scene today.
Another past Jubilee headliner, The Trews bring their Atlantic Canadian acoustic tour to the Square on Nov. 7. Although the Toronto-based foursome made its name dishing out intense, raw, yet melodic rock and roll that has won fans and critics worldwide – not to mention heaps of awards and countless radio hits – The Trews serendipitously discovered that turning down the volume actually dialed up the heft.
Yet another East Coast musical icon, Jimmy Rankin takes to the stage of Glasgow Square on Nov. 17. Beginning with his days in the Rankin Family, and continuing on in a solo career, Jimmy has unquestionably etched his place in the music world as one of the foremost singer-songwriters and performers in the country.
Join the cast of New Glasgow Youth Theatre Company on Nov. 21 and 22 for their stage production of Gary L. Blackwood’s humorous re-telling of the Grimm Brothers’ folktale, The Goose Girl. Charming and witty, this award-winning play is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
Nov. 30 marks the CD Release show for Pictou County natives EB Anderson & The Resolutes. With a deep sound, EB Anderson & The Resolutes’ diversity comes from a vintage country foundation, a keen sense of blues, and songwriting skills that catch the ear of even the most hardcore folk fans. Coming from rural Nova Scotia and currently working the Halifax roots music scene, their sophomore album “Broken Down Horse” was released by Let's Riot! Music in 2013.
On Dec. 6, The Stanfields return to Glasgow Square to perform songs from their new acoustic recording, For King and Country. This project is a departure from band’s well-known raucous rock show, but at the same time a return to the band’s roots.
Glasgow Square will also host its two annual events – Christmas Serenade with Doris Mason & Friends Dec. 14 and Ghostrider & The Allied Horns New Year’s Eve Bash on Dec. 31.
