One man dead in Highway 125 crash

SYDNEY — One man has died following a head-on collision on Highway 125 in Sydney River, Thursday morning.

 

The RCMP wasn't immediately releasing any other information about the victim, including his name, age or hometown.

 

Westbound traffic was being detoured at Exit 7 (Alexandra Street) while eastbound traffic was detoured between exits 6 (Sydney River) and Exit 7.

 

At approximately 8:25 a.m. today, RCMP, Sydney River Fire Department and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of a collision at Exit 6.

 

The Cape Breton Regional Police Service and Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are also assisting the RCMP at the scene.

 

A preliminary investigation revealed that a car traveling eastbound collided with a dump truck traveling westbound. Following the impact, the truck landed on its side. Both drivers were transported to Cape Breton Hospital by EHS and their injuries are considered serious.

 

An RCMP collision reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
