Premier Darrell Dexter stopped in at the Nova Scotia Community College in Stellarton today as part of his first visit to the county since the election was officially called.
The NDP currently hold all three seats in Pictou County. Students are a key focus in this election with the Liberals vowing to eliminate interest on Student Loans. Today, Premier Darrell Dexter announced a Graduate Home Ownership Assistance Program that will help young graduates buy their first home.
“The NDP is fighting for good jobs and building stronger communities so more young people can stay, work and raise a family here at home,”said Dexter.“This program will help young graduates who may have student loans buy their first home and start building equity for their future.”
Many new graduates are paying as much in rent as they would for a mortgage. Barriers for first time homebuyers are often the lack of a sizeable down payment and, for some, repayment of their student loan.
“The NDP will provide more flexible down payment options allowing new graduates and young people to buy a home earlier and plan for their future sooner,” said the NDP leader.
