Marcel d'Entremont was one of the recipients chosen for a Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship.

Marcel d’Entremont of Merigomish and Nicholas Higgs of New Glasgow are among 45 chosen to receive a Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship.

The Nova Scotia Talent Trust has recently given out $75,000 in scholarships to emerging Nova Scotia artists in the fields of dance, theatre, media (film) studies, music, visual and literary arts.

Both Higgs and d’Entremont were awarded for opera voice.

The 45 successful scholarship recipients were chosen from a field of 101 applications.

Applications were received from various parts of the province, from Middleton to Sydney, Bridgewater to Amherst.  An independent, volunteer Scholarship Selection Committee, made up of twelve artist professionals, two from each discipline, met in April and again in June to decide who would receive a scholarship.

Since its creation in 1944, the NSTT has given out more than $1.9 million dollars in scholarships to over 1900 recipients.

The NSTT has two deadline dates coming up in 2014: 1 March for Spring/Summer study and 1 May for Fall/Winter study.  For more information, please visit their website at www.nstalenttrust.ns.ca.
