WESTVILLE – Victoria Park will be covered in cardboard Saturday night, but not because of any litterbugs.

Pictou County Roots for Youth is holding Homeless For a Night in Westville and plans to put up a box city.

“We have a lot of people thinking it’s a great and new idea,” says youth worker Courtney Cameron.

Plans for the fun and educational night are coming nicely, Cameron says.

Setup begins at 4 p.m. People are welcome to stay in tents instead of boxes, but they’ll miss out on the contest for the best decorated cardboard home.

Judging for the best house will be between 9 and 9:15, but there’s a lot to look forward to before that.

From 5 until 7 p.m., organizations from Pictou County will be set up in the gym of the Westville Civic Centre. It gives people a chance to see other like-minded groups in the area that help with different aspects of homelessness.

Between 7 and 10 p.m., there will be face painting, zumba, washer toss, trivia, a barbecue and other activities.

A movie will also run after 10 p.m.

The whole event is free and runs until 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
