PICTOU – An annual walk to raise money for juvenile diabetes will be held in Truro this weekend.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk for a Cure will begin with registration at 9 a.m. at the bandshell in Victoria Park followed by a three-kilometre walk in the downtown Truro area, said organizer Erin Cock, a former Pictou resident.
Cock first took part in JDRF’s walk/run in Pictou in 2006, shortly after her daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. She has been hosting a walk in Truro since 2007, helping to raise between $12,000 and $17,000 each year.
A run for JDRF will take place in Pictou Sept. 29 on the Jitney Trail with registration starting at 8 a.m. Five and 10 km runs will be held and both registration and post-race celebrations will take place at BIA Maithe Gastro Pub on Water Street, Pictou.
