NEW GLASGOW – The New Glasgow Farmers Market is hosting its first ever Harvest Time Dinner on Sunday at the Farmers Market Dome.
The event is being held in celebration of all that farmers and vendors do for the community by providing fresh and local products and as a fundraiser for the New Glasgow Famers Market Co-operative.
Pictou Lodge Chef Thomas Carey will prepare the meal consisting of products sold at the market while volunteers connected to the Market will serve guests. The evening will commence with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner begins at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be presented by Art Coleman and Michael Freeman. The menu will feature a salad with Red Road Farm red beets, roasted red peppers, goat cheese and Mac D’s Bees honey walnuts topped with vanilla bean vinaigrette. The main course is Auchencairn Farm and B.L.M. braised beef shank, creamy asiago polenta, forest mushroom, radish and Lakenman’s Farm carrots with red wine demi. For dessert will be fried apple pie with cinnamon sugar, salted caramel sauce, MeeMaw’s peanut brittle served with vanilla bean ice cream.
“The Farmers Market encompasses a great sense of community and the harvest dinner is an occasion to be thankful for these blessings and to celebrate all the wonderful things farmers do to make our community and our province special,” said Jacinthe Bennett, volunteer co-ordinator of Harvest Time Dinner and weekly vendor at the market.
“It will be an evening to remember and we hope to make this an annual tradition and hallmark of the community,” said market manager Fleur Mainville.
The market now has more than 40 vendors each week.
“We are very excited that the New Glasgow Farmers Market has created this great event to kick off the arrival of autumn in style and that it gives yet another chance to enjoy the bounty of the local harvest,” says Kim Dickson, New Glasgow’s Director of Marketing & Communications.
