This year’s event will mark the second since the passing of founder Emma Lee Stewart. It was her wish that the event continue with its mandate to increase public awareness, raise funds and educate in all areas of cancer prevention, awareness and care.
This year’s event will feature performances by Maple Blues, CCMA and ECMA award winner Matt Minglewood who will be joined by his full band and special guests; Doris Mason and Wayne Nicholson. Kicking off the evening will be international blues performer Alan Gerber.
Since its inception the Reason for Hope has raised in excess of $25,000 for cancer-related initiatives including the Lodge that Gives, Aberdeen Hospital’s Oncology Department, Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute. Funds raised at this year’s Reason for Hope Concert will be directed to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.
“It was Emma Lee’s wish that fundraising efforts be directed to research in this area as it directly affects approximately 25 per cent of persons diagnosed with breast cancer” said organization spokesperson Jim Stewart.
Most recently the Reason for Hope Society presented the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute with a contribution of $10,000 to fund Dr. Stephen Lewis and his team in Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.
The evening will feature a silent auction as well as a number of door prizes. One of the featured auction items will be a guitar autographed by Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Bare, Jonathan Edwards, George Canyon, Matt Minglewood, Lennie Gallant and a number of other well known artists.
Tickets are $25 in advance $30 at the door and are on sale at H&R Music and Glasgow Square.
