With the extinction of the penny, the Riverview Volunteer Association was forced to evaluate their annual fundraising drive with the copper coin.
This year, they hope to make the leap from the one-cent coins to loonies and toonies.
They’re accepting all monetary donations, from smaller denominations or bills.
The “change parade” will be running Oct. 10-12 at the Sobeys locations on the west side, at the Aberdeen mall and in Stellarton. Superstore in New Glasgow is also participating.
Over 50 churches will accept donations on Oct. 13.
The registered charity is made up of relatives and friends of the 97 adult residents with mental or physical handicaps at Riverview Homes. The fundraising amounts go towards recreational and social activities for them.
