This Thanksgiving Weekend, the Pictou County District RCMP, Northern/Eastern RCMP Traffic Services and all police services in Nova Scotia are taking part in Operation Impact to save lives and reduce injuries on Nova Scotia's roadways.
The focus of this operation is to educate the public of the risks associated with driving a motor vehicle while being distracted, impaired by alcohol or drugs or in an aggressive manner.
Between Oct. 11 and 14, traffic volumes will increase with motorist travelling to spend time with family and friends. The RCMP will have a strong presence on roadways targeting high risk driving behaviours in hope to minimize the number of serious collisions.
Operation Impact is a Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police National Road Safety Initiative and supported by Transport Canada, which has the goal of making Canada's roads the safest in the world.
