STELLARTON – If all goes well, Stellarton residents may soon be able to stop boiling their water.
Town engineer Tony Addis said the town reservoirs are at full capacity now.
Addis said the reservoirs are low due to the aging of the reservoir’s inner membrane. They’ve cleaned those out and hope to be able to produce enough water now.
During the shortage water from the East River was pumped into the reservoirs, located near the Pioneer Strip Mine and at the top of Poplar Street. While the water did go through the treatment plant, Addis said the boil water order is being used as a precautionary measure.
The town is recommending that water be boiled for at least a minute when the water is used for cooking, washing vegetables and dental hygiene.
