PICTOU – For the first time, the Town of Pictou will be participating in Sports Day in Canada.
Presented by ParticipACTION, CBC and True Sport, RBC Sports Day in Canada celebrates the power of sport and all it can do for families, communities and national pride.
The Pictou recreation and parks committee is co-ordinating this year’s event. Pictou will offer town-wide free “Try It” sessions Nov. 30 in which everyone is welcome to participate from ages two to 102. If you are interested in trying out something new before committing to a new activity in sport and recreation this is the day to do it. You can drop in to any activity and join, no registration is required.
Here is a glimpse of event activities taking place. For the wee ones: a Tumblebug session with Kelli Cruickshank, drop in Badminton and Floor Hockey at the PA Gym, Aqua Zumba class and a Water Hoops Basketball Challenge at the pool, drop by True Potential Fitness, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and work out for free, Akido at The Palace, 2-4 p.m., skateboards ramps and demos at the Youth Centre, Road Hockey challenge on Caladh Avenue, or try your hand a tennis. New Caledonian Curling Club will be offering a free drop in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with instruction available along with a prize draw.
