Small fire started and confined to wall in Acro Lounge
Firefighters snuffed out a small fire in downtown New Glasgow Monday morning.
The New Glasgow Fire Department responded to a call around 11:50 a.m. of a fire in the building that houses the Acro Lounge and Rogers. Fire Chief Doug Dort said it took about 10 minutes to subdue the flames.
“It was confined between a wall where some people were doing contracting work,” said Dort. “The fire was in the wall that divides the Acro Lounge from the other stores.”
Archimedes Street was closed for about an hour while firefighters were in the area.
While there were some contractors, employees and patrons around, no one was hurt and all were safely evacuated. Dort said large exhaust fans were used to remove smoke from the building.
“Everyone returned to work in the building about an hour after we received the initial call.”
Three vehicles and 16 members of the NGFD responded to the fire call.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.
