NEW GLASGOW – Pictou County Roots for Youth is challenging residents of Pictou County to have a voice for youth homelessness, by taking part in the national Raising the Roof toque campaign.

The Raising the Roof toque campaign runs from Dec 3 to Feb 4.

For those who accept this challenge all materials needed will be provided such as toques, posters and information.

Sixty per cent of what is raised by toque sales in Pictou County will go to assist homeless youth in the county and the other 40 per cent will go to Raising the Roof and to assist homeless individuals on a national level.

The group that raises the most money through toque sales and other fundraisers will be awarded the victor and receive their prize on Feb. 4, “Toque Tuesday,” at Roots for Youth’s celebration for National Awareness Day. All other funds raised outside of toque sales will go directly to Roots for Youth and assist the youth in Pictou County.

If you and your staff/group/team would like to take part in this community challenge you can fill out the registration form and e-mail it to Courtney Cameron at by Dec. 3. You will receive all the materials needed to take part.
