NEW GLASGOW – In the midst of the wind and rain storm that hit Nova Scotia on Wednesday and carried into Thursday morning, the New Glasgow Fire Department was called to a fire on Green Street, which is located off Lorne Street.
New Glasgow fire chief Doug Dort said they received the call around 4:10 a.m. about the house and when they arrived it was fully engulfed in flames.
It took the approximately 20 firefighters who responded more than an hour to get the blaze under control. By that time there was little left of the building and some trees surrounding the home were black where they had started to burn.
The home was vacant at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
While they were still investigating the cause, Dort said it appears that the fire was likely electrical in nature. No one was living in the home, but there was still electricity hooked up to it.
