Man accused of gun possession returning to court next week

PICTOU – A 27-year-old New Glasgow man will return to provincial court next Monday on weapon charges.

James George Falt was charged Saturday in New Glasgow with possession of a restricted weapon, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun dangerous to the public and breach of a court order. 

He is also charged with failing to appear in court on July. He has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance Monday. A bail hearing could take place at that time.


Man facing multiple charges to make election Dec. 23

PICTOU – A Pictou man facing multiple weapon and drug charges from an alleged incident in November will return to provincial court at the end of the month. 

Matthew William David Greencorn, 21, has not entered pleas on nine weapons charges and three drug charges that include possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and marijuana. 

He will return to court Dec. 23.


Man pleads guilty to refusing breathalyzer

PICTOU – A 55-year-old New Glasgow man will be sentenced Feb. 25 after pleading guilty to refusing a breathalyzer. 

Gregory Alan Greene entered the guilty plea Monday in Pictou provincial court in connection with a charge laid Sept. 23 in New Glasgow. 

The Crown requested a pre-sentence report because Greene has a prior criminal record that weighs in on the sentencing decision.


Sentence in February for man guilty of assault

PICTOU – A 19-year-old New Glasgow man has pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.  

Tyson Christopher Lumsden was charged Sept. 23 in Thorburn with assaulting another man. He will be sentenced Feb. 12.  


Man pleads not guilty to assault using truck

PICTOU – A Pictou Landing man has pleaded not guilty to an alleged assault that involved using his truck to harm another person on July 9.

Curtis Allen Paul, 29, will stand trial in Pictou Provincial Court Feb. 26 on the assault charge. 

Paul has pleaded guilty to a charge of breach of a court order and conveying a threat, but will be sentenced on these charges after his trial takes place on the assault charge.
