PICTOU – Demolition of the former Shiretown Nursing Home began this week in Pictou.
An excavator is used to pick up debris and put it into waiting dump trucks at the site of the old Shiretown Nursing Home as the building is razed. Demolition should be complete by the end of January. ADAM MACINNIS – THE NEWS
The work is being done by Marinus Verhagen Limited, which was awarded the tender from the Department of Transportation.
An excavator was busy eating away at the building and loading the remains onto dump trucks at the site to haul away.
Last week a TIR spokesperson said the target for completion is the end of January, but already much of the building is gone.
In the spring of 2012, Shiretown Nursing Home was replaced with one home behind the former location on Haliburton Road, which has 53 beds, and a second home in Trenton, Ivey's Terrace, with 36 beds.
The demolition is not expected to impact traffic on Haliburton Street or affect the new Shiretown home located behind the demolition site.
