The Broomball Challenge pits a team from the North End Recreation Centre against a team representing the Westside Community Centre in a fun match whereby funds are raised to benefit both centres and their programs.
“Every year the event gets a little more popular and certainly more competitive,” said chairperson Frank Proudfoot. “At the end of the day, it really benefits the community and allows both centres to have funds to keep the ice surfaces open during the winters. Luckily, Mother Nature is on our side this winter and both rinks are in great shape.”
Because of the previous poor condition of the Westside Community Centre and its subsequent renovation and reopening in 2013, the broomball challenge will take place at the Westside Community Centre this year.
Saturday’s kickoff runs from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. and features the entertainment of Derek & Jessie. There will food and drinks, a cash bar, prizes, and the unveiling of the team rosters and honorary captains. All are welcome.
