A New Hampshire couple about to get married last summer never thought a balloon message would travel over 370 miles by air.

This note was found in Wolfville. It had been carried by balloon from New Hampshire.

On Dec. 29, another couple snowshoeing in an orchard at the west end of Wolfville found the note from the newlyweds, Elizabeth and Bob Piper.

Jessica Wiebe, who hails from Manitoba, noticed something hanging in a bare apple tree. She discovered a limp balloon with ribbons and a baggie attached.

Inside was a damp and faded message, indicating the Pipers had a wedding shower in July and were due to wed Sept. 21. “Wish us well,” reads the message.

“I was really hoping it would be found, it would be awesome,” Elizabeth Piper told WMUR TV in Belmont, N.H. “Of course, then I forgot about it.”

The Pipers remember that, on the day of their wedding shower, a friend wrote a note with their names and attached it to three helium balloons that the couple released into the New Hampshire sky.

“Yeah, I remember seeing it and thinking, ‘Oh no, it’s going to get stuck in a tree’. Then we were speculating where it would go. We were wrong,” said Elizabeth Piper.

“Yeah, we figured it would go five miles and land in a tree, not make it all the way to Nova Scotia, is it?” Bob Piper said.

“Yeah, that’s crazy,” Elizabeth Piper said.

The purple and green balloons carried the couple’s message from the Lakes Region of New Hampshire all the way to the Annapolis Valley.

“It said it was found in an apple tree, which was funny because our wedding was fall-themed and we had bushels of apples everywhere,” Elizabeth Piper said. “It was just cool.”

“It was a couple that found it and we wish them the best of luck as well,” Bob Piper said.

The Pipers said they have never been to Nova Scotia, but maybe now they’ll go. They would, at least, love to talk to the people who found their message.
