Pictou County’s “Ballot Box Bandit” was in provincial court Monday but did not enter any pleas on charges of mischief and breaching the terms of his probation order.

Alexander James MacKay, 64, of Pictou Landing, is charged with removing a department of highways road sign last September and breaching his probation by not keeping the peace.  In March 2012 he was sentenced to three years of probation as part of his sentence for stealing a ballot box, an action which he described as a protest against a federal government settlement with Pictou Landing  First Nations over pollution at Boat Harbour.

MacKay, who appeared sporting a vest identifying himself as the “Ballot Box Bandit,” will be back in court Jan. 27 to enter a plea.
