The Canada Revenue Agency is looking for volunteers to help file simple income tax returns for people in your community on behalf of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).

The program is to assist eligible individuals who are not able to prepare their income tax and benefit returns by themselves.

This is a free service to people with lower incomes.

It is intended to ensure that all taxpayers have equal access to the tax system.

Community organizations host tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare tax returns.

A press release for the program lists some of the benefits of volunteering as a chance to give back to your community, a way to increase your personal tax knowledge, help Canadians maintain uninterrupted access to benefits, gain new skills and improve existing ones, do work that is valued and recognized, and receive training, support, and reference materials including free tax software.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact your local CVITP coordinator at 1-855-516-4405.
