-All schools within the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board are closed today due to the weather, this includes Pictou, Colchester and Cumberland counties and the Municipality of East Hants. 

-MacLeod Lorway New Glasgow is closed for the day.

-All PARL branches & Regional Library HQs are closed today (Jan22), due to the winter storm weather.

-McCulloch Heritage Centre in Pictou closed today

-Regular garbage pick up in New Glasgow has been rescheduled for Saturday.

-New Glasgow Town Hall is closed today due to the impending storm. 

-PC YMCA: All swimming lessons scheduled for this afternoon are cancelled and will now take place this Friday at the same time.

Blizzard warning for Pictou County continued


Blizzard conditions are expected over Western Nova Scotia this morning and in the east this afternoon and this evening.


This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.


An intensifying low pressure system developing south of the Maritimes will track northeastward passing east of Nova Scotia tonight before reaching Newfoundland Thursday morning. This disturbance will bring significant snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 centimetres, strong winds and blowing snow to the province.


After last night's initial burst of snow,general conditions will deteriorate this morning in the west. Worsening conditions are expected over central and eastern areas during the afternoon. Blizzard conditions are forecast with winds gusting at times between 70 to 90 kilometres per hour. Gradual improvement is expected from west to east tonight.


Environment Canada will continue to monitor the development of this storm, providing updates as new information becomes available.

Snow at times heavy changing to flurries near midnight. Amount 10 cm. Blowing snow. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 70 becoming northwest 50 gusting to 80 this evening. Low minus 13.

A mix of sun and cloud. Wind northwest 40 km/h gusting to 60 becoming west 20 in the morning. High minus 9. Cold wind chill minus 25.

Sunny. Low minus 18. High minus 12.
