A young family with three toddlers escaped unhurt from a fire Thursday that damaged their rental home in the rural community of Manassette Lake, Nova Scotia, about 20 kilometres east of Guysborough.

The couple and their children - ages 3, 2 and 1 - had only moved to the province a few weeks ago from Ontario. They're receiving support from the Canadian Red Cross and government agencies, ranging from emergency lodging in Antigonish through to providing teddy bears as comfort aids for the children.   The fire, at 2682 Highway 344, was reported around 11 a.m. Thursday. There was no immediate word on the cause.
