The town of Trenton says it is prepared to resume negotiations with Local 281.

Workers voted Monday to strike. The town of Trenton’s negotiating committee held a meeting Tuesday night to discuss the matter.

“As I indicated earlier, the town does not like negotiating through the media, however in light of Ms. Sutherland’s statement ‘this is as top-heavy as a municipal workforce gets,’ clearly shows she does not appreciate what it takes to operate an arena, park, public works department and water treatment plant.”

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland had said the town has only nine and a half employees, but three full-time supervisors.

No specific date has been given for when the negotiations will resume.
