NEW GLASGOW – The Celtic Circle is plotting revenge on Valentine’s Day, by handing the day of romance to the singles.
On Feb. 14, anyone 35 years old or older and unmarried is invited to the New Glasgow entertainment venue for an evening of mingling, tapas and drinks.
“There are so many wonderful and interesting people living in isolation here in Pictou County. So for the sake of good heart health and to build a stronger community connection, we are offering a social for singles on Valentine's Day,” Jannine Howell, venue co-ordinator, says.
Howell calls on research from Brigham Young University that suggested isolation was a bigger health risk than smoking, obesity, alcoholism and a lack of exercise.
She says this shows the need to socialize.
“People are spending their time in front of a computer and not socializing in person.”
Joan Krawczyk, venue co-ordinator, says they’re hoping to reel in those on dating websites, such as Plenty of Fish.
She believes a connection is stronger in person.
“When you meet people in person, there’s always a spark there.”
There can be a snap judgment made over someone’s photo, and it’s harder to get a sense of their personality, she says.
It starts at 6 p.m. with a $7 cover.
