Fisherman pulled out of water in Port Mouton dies

A Queens County fisherman who fell in the water on March 3 has died in hospital.

Queens RCMP said Stephen Darin Hanson, 42, fell into the water on Monday off the coast of South West Port Mouton shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Although he was pulled back into the boat almost immediately and his fellow fishermen rushed him back to the wharf in Port Mouton, he was unresponsive when paramedics and Liverpool firefighters arrived at the scene and CPR was administered. 

A Cormorant helicopter from 413 Squadron in Greenwood was dispatched and on the scene by 9:30 a.m. and took him to CFB Shearwater, where he was transferred to hospital in critical condition.

He died later that evening.

The matter is under investigation, but RCMP do not suspect foul play.
