A leprechaun was spreading St. Patrick’s Day cheer throughout the town of Trenton and parts of New Glasgow today.

Mistaken by some for Tom MacLean of Trenton, the leprechaun said he wanted to put a smile on some faces as he walked around in his green garb and passed out golden treats. “That’s the problem, there’s too much depression,” he said. “Everyone’s depressed about Michelin or something else.”

He hoped for at least a few minutes to brighten some peoples’ day and invited The News to come along for the ride.

He stopped at various businesses as well as Trenton United Church where he sang Danny Boy with those there. He also stopped at the Canada Post, Sobeys and Scotia Bank, where he was greeted with smiles and laughter.

This leprechaun said he was in his 80s and although taller than one might expect a leprechaun to be, he certainly looked the part with accessories including a green hat with a similar coloured balloon attached.
