County council has expressed concerns about the amount if time it is taking to renovate the Aberdeen Hospital emergency department.
Warden Ron Baillie said he and New Glasgow Mayor Barrie MacMillan are worried about the amount of time that it is taking to get the renovations completed at the Aberdeen.
"It is taking way too long," said Baillie during a county council meeting Monday.
The provincial government committed money to the renovations and the municipalities did as well in addition to funding the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
Bailie said provincial funding is secured until 2016 and it could be another two years before the renovations start. He said the original deadline to have the renovations done was 2018.
"I don't want the hospital to become a transfer station," he said, adding he is waiting to hear more from Pictou County District Heath Authority Chair Murray Hill.
"It's definitely a concern," he said. "We have to push the rope as much as we can. I don't want to use scare tactics but it's not a good situation at the moment."
