WESTVILLE – Restoration plans are underway for the cenotaph in Westville.
Vincent Joyce, chair of the restoration project, announced Monday during a town council meeting that 55 letters have been handed out to local businesses in the county and the committee has completed four grant applications for government funding.
“Donations are coming in,” he said. “I see a project and I go for it.”
He said the restoration to the 90-year-old structure will include putting plaques with names on them where the current names are listed. The cenotaph lists the names of local residents who died during the first and second world wars as well as the Korean Conflict.
Joyce said Heritage Monuments has been contracted to the work that will also include a handicap walkway and the steps will be redone.
